It Takes Diligence

In our society everyone seems to be an authority on something. Truth is relevant and everyone has something to say. Everyone has an opinion. And our social media has given vent to the masses.

If you listen to TV or radio or surf the Internet you discover something. Our airwaves are full of people who lie. Who are not handling the Word of Truth. Who invent truth to further their own agenda.

The prophets of Baal are showing up in our land. When you hear what they are saying you realize something. They are liars and deceivers, worshiping false gods and selling snake oil to their listeners. It is far from Truth. They are full of empty chatter and it will all lead to further ungodliness.

But Elijah was diligent and was approved by The One True God. He stood his ground and did not stray from the truth.

Elijah stood in front of all the people of Israel and challenged them. They had been disobedient and full of sin and followed Baal. They knew the truth but were disobeying and disrespecting God. ” ‘How long will you hesitate between two opinions?,’ Elijah asked. “If the Lord is God follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.’ But the people did not answer him a word.’ ” (1 Kings 18:21). Their silence was probably their answer.

It comes down to one choice for each of us. What will you decide today? Will you be diligent and strong and stand up for the truth, no matter the circumstances? Or will you allow others to define you and determine your direction in life?

PRAYER: Father, we know the challenges we face today from the Baals of the world. We know our culture is eroding and instead of us impacting the world around us, many times we often allow the world to define us. Give us the diligence to stand for the truth and against the gods of Baal. Help us accurately handle the Word of Truth, O God, and avoid the worldly and empty chatter that will only lead to further ungodliness. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
