Experiencing True Love
Let me start by asking you a question. How would you describe God’s love? That could certainly be a daunting task. Many would describe a moment in time when they felt His love. Some may have a person that comes to mind who shows the Love of God in everything they do. As believers we may describe the Love of God in many ways and we can look to God’s Word for many scriptures and stories that help us understand it.
There are many keys to understanding His love. These all can be seen throughout the Bible. First, we must realize that knowing the Love of God is critical for effectiveness as a Christian. To show the Love of God, we must know that love. Secondly, we have to come to grips with the fact that His love is the answer to our greatest needs. In fact, it is all we need. Finally, His love is vital for us to have a life of impact.
Look at John 15:9-10. “Just as the Father has loved me, I have also loved you, abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” What a key verse in our beginning to comprehend God’s Love. Jesus is our example. Simply stated, we are to love as He has loved us and the Father has loved Him.
Here is a second question, how can we understand His perfect love better? We can look to the Bible for the answer to that question as well.
If we look at John 14:9-10, 16 we see that we can recharge our understanding. Jesus must be the central focus. We must show evidence of our confession of that love. John 14:15, 21 and 23 shows us that a recommitment to His Word is key also. We must keep His Word in our hearts, and we must walk in that love effectively on a daily basis. James 1:12 and Romans 8:37-39 says that we can reboot our capacity to focus on Him. Eliminating distractions that deter focus must be addressed and dealt with. We must persevere.
Finally, aligning our live with an axis of living faith demands that we live in His perfect love!
